From the Director's Desk

Initial Year 3 Applications arriving
Last week, Pennsbury sent in their initial batch of seven applications for Keystone Year 3, with more to follow shortly. We've also heard from several other sites regarding information sessions they have or will be holding to spread the word among colleagues. Please do talk to colleagues you feel would benefit from involvement in the KSN. (Site liaisons, please remember to fax applications on the Sharon as you receive them, as slots for each institute are largely on a first-apply basis.)

Spring Colloquium update
We have heard from a couple more sites indicating some problems in April due to PSSA testing, so we are reconsidering the schedule. At this point we are looking to have one colloquium pick up on the important performance assessment front—but drawing from our own KSN ranks in sharing work undertaken by several of our sites. We encourage suggestions from sites for preferred topic and date for a second offering, possibility still in April. Participants would select one of the two colloquia options to attend. I would like to confirm things soon so substitutes can be arranged, etc.

Beth Herren (West Chester)

We hope to have opportunity again in the future to offer Mini-Grant opportunities to our project participants.

On the Lighter Side

Answer to the Valentine's Day Brainteaser

The Original Brainteaser:
How many flowers do I have in my valentine's bouquet if all of them are roses except two, all of them are carnations except two and all of them are tulips except two?

Answer:
Under the assumption that your bouquet DOES, in fact, contain flowers of each of the three fore-mentioned species, you are holding three flowers (one of each).

Or, I suppose…zero, if you and your friends do not believe in "Hallmark Holidays."

Flowers or not, have a good Valentine's Day!
